Infrared photography fascinates me in the winter. The icy feeling that I can bring out in the images is incredible! To be honest, it wasn’t always the case… when I delved into learning this technique, many agreed that winter is the worst season. No leaves, lower sun, sub-zero temperatures… Going out to photograph nothing?
Despite that, I thought that the green of snow-covered fir trees should be amazing with the IR Chrome filter. Indeed, this filter transforms the green of organic matter into red. This will surely create striking contrasts with the white of the snow! My first photos confirmed this idea for me, but it was nonetheless the icy blue of the 720 nm filter that convinced me that winter is a very special season for infrared photography.
The frozen blue hue of the fir trees creates an atmosphere of a hostile world where temperatures have been negative for decades… Although this image was taken in our area, from Marchairuz, towards the Brassus Ski Club hut!”
