This interactive artwork invites the viewer to experience the different moods of nature. The image depicts the rugged peaks of the Gastlosen, a magnificent mountain range in the Swiss Prealps. Known for its dramatic limestone cliffs and jagged formations, this location is a perfect setting for the interplay of light in nature. By moving your mouse or finger across the image, you can control the light, gradually revealing how it illuminates the scene. The first image starts without sunlight, and the last captures the landscape fully illuminated.
This work reflects a moment I often experience in the field, camera in hand, waiting for the light to finally break through the clouds and bring the landscape to life. It’s that magical moment when the light touches the scene, and the photograph comes alive.
The striking red color of the plants and trees is not a post-processing effect but the result of using a chrome infrared filter. This filter draws inspiration from the iconic Kodak Aerochrome film, originally developed for military use to detect camouflage but later celebrated for its unique ability to transform vegetation into vibrant shades of red. This technique allows me to create an almost supernatural atmosphere directly during the shoot, capturing the landscape in a way that highlights the interplay between light, color, and nature.
